+41 x GROTESK NIKEiD BESPOKE FOR SNEAKERNESS `09

Zürich, April 28th. For this years Sneakerness event in Zürich Nike invited the two Swiss artists and designers Grotesk and +41 to create an exclusive and unique pair of sneakers with NikeiD Bespoke. Two iconic shoes served as inspiration for the design - the Air Jordan 3 and the Air Jordan Sky High. The result, the NikeiD Bespoke designed by +41 and Grotesk, will be on display the first time ever during the Sneakerness on May 9th 2009 in Zürich.

The Story
Grotesk and +41 are both Swiss, living and working in two different countries. +41 is based in Lausanne, Switzerland and Grotesk in Brooklyn, USA. Independently they came up with the idea to refer to a vintage Air Jordan design, +41 to the Air Jordan Sky High and Grotesk to the Air Jordan 3. It’s the first time ever they work together. As they could not meet in person, both Philippe from +41 in Switzerland and Grotesk at the NikeiD Studio on 21 Mercer in New York City, collaborated online and created this Nike iD Bespoke sneaker.

The Sneaker
With tons of possibilities when creating a Nike iD Bespoke they decided to take an honest and simple design approach. This in many ways is sympathetic of the existing design elements: One example is the 3 red laces rings referring to those of the AJ3. The shoe itself is well balanced just right with a choice of colors that are very subtle. Both designers felt strongly that they wanted to design a shoe more classical, more elegant and referential to what they would really like to wear, going deep into the design detail using simplicity without using and abusing the many colors and materials that are available.

Charity-Parties sind gross im Kommen. Gutes Tun und Feiern sind ein hippes Paar. Die innovativen und trendsicheren Veranstalter des ersten Schweizer Lifestyle Events zur Sneaker-Kultur SNEAKERNESS und die Stiftung für nachhaltige Entwicklung und interkulturellen Austausch Cooperaxion engagieren sich seit Dezember 2008 mit dem Partylabel „Sneaks for Hope“.

Oft spendet man Geld für eine sogenannt gute Sache, für eine schöne Idee, weiss aber nicht, ob und wie man arme Menschen so tatsächlich praktisch und situationsgerecht unterstützt. Die Party-Serie „Sneaks for Hope“ und die Hilfsorganisation Cooperaxion wollen konkret helfen. Und das mit Turnschuhen. Gäste, die zur Party ein Paar gut erhaltene Sneaker mitbringen, profitieren von einem vergünstigten Eintritt. Die gesammelten Turnschuhe kommen Menschen in Afrika zugute.

Unterstütze die Hilfsorganisation Cooperaxion und spende Sneakers (Neue oder Gebrauchte). Dafür erhälst du vergünstigten Eintritt (15.–) und hilfst damit Jugendlichen aus den Slums Monrovias (Liberia).

Sneaks for Hope is our Charity Party. The first Party took place 20th of December 2009 at Wasserwerk Club, Berne. We collected about 200 Pairs of Sneakers. They're still on the way to Monrovia (Liberia).

3. The Black Friday Release Party at Cameo in South Miami Beach Florida. (11/28/2008)

What do you think about the Sneaker Culture in Europe? Same as in USA?
I believe the only Thing that is different about Europe & U.S. Sneaker Culture is the Choice of Shoes. Europeans are more open minded to new Shoes.

Did You get in touch with the Asian Sneaker Culture? What do you think? Crazy?
I Have always been heavy in the Asian Sneaker Game. They are super serious about their Shoes. They have plenty of Shops. And they are very clean on the value of certain Sneakers. I love to go and shop in Japan & Hong Kong.

What are your next projects?
More Dj Work. Managing & producing new Rappers: "CURTAINS", "FRED THE GODSON" and a Rap named "FDNY". Producing Tracks. Building a Website. Working on a few new Shoes Ideas.

Are you coming to Europe this year?
Hopefully, I love it over there!! They appreciate the Music much more than the U.S.

Hi Bobbito! How are you? Here in Switzerland its toooo cold! How is the weather in NYC?

Where did you spinn on New Year?
I did the Giant Step Records NYE Party at the Delano Hotel, Miami, Fl. They had me on a platform over the pool so it looked like I was floating on water. Pretty cool!

Your craziest party in 2008?
Wonder-full Stevie Wonder Tribute with DJ Spinna, June, 2008, in NYC. Stevie himself came down and got on the mic, sang to the crowd, all unannounced. It was unreal.

Which was your favorite Sneaker in 2008?
Hmmm, hard to say, but the nike air Pegasus 25th anniversary in grey/blue was super comfy and I wore them just about everyday.

What do you think about the Sneaker Culture in Europe? Same as in USA?
Europe is similar in some ways, then very different in others. I respect all the heads worldwide so long as they have their own flavor.

Did You get in touch with the Asian Sneaker Culture? What do you think? Crazy?
Asian sneaker culture for a long time has been really on point. I can remember the early ‘90s when they’d have deadstock shoes available there. This was before e-bay and before retro became globally popular. They were ahead of the curve.

What are your next projects?
Doing a collab with Pro-Keds for the re-release of the Royal Flash model, originally from 1979. It’s the 30th anniversary, and I’m psyched to be involved!

Are you coming to Europe this year?
Of course, sneakerness all the waaay!
